I co-facilitated the Rapid Prototyping Workshop at Digital Society School, designed for both DSS trainees and Transformation Owners from the TLP program. This hands-on workshop combined theory with practical exercises, allowing participants to dive straight into their projects. By creating prototypes related to their upcoming semester work, trainees engaged with real-world challenges early on, setting a strong foundation for their projects.
Held midway through the traineeship, this workshop aimed to refresh key prototyping principles. We noticed that in long-term projects, teams often get so caught up in planning and research that they overlook the power of building and testing prototypes as tools for idea validation. Prototypes are not only a means of testing concepts but also a powerful way to communicate ideas effectively.
The workshop emphasised the value of rapid creation by encouraging participants to prototype within a set timeframe. This exercise helped them realize that translating a core concept into something tangible is often easier than they might have thought.
Ultimately, the goal of this workshop was to highlight the importance of resourcefulness and an iterative approach to project development. Through the cycle of hypothesising, testing, and drawing conclusions from the outcomes, participants learned how to keep momentum in their work while continuously improving their ideas.
